If you live in Louisiana and watched WAFB earlier today you might have seen this funny clip. They take a look at StreetViewFun.com and our popular Top 100 StreetViews list.

The popular Top 100 Street Views has been updated. You can now also find the StreetView images most popular during the last year in our new toplist Top 10 last 365 days. It’s on the same page to the right of the Top 100. You can also find Toplists for most countries where Street View is available. And you can see the most popular Street View images from the last 30 days.

We are experiencing extremely heavy traffic at the moment to this site. That is why pages might load slower than usual. Sorry… So far today we are getting about 10 times as many visitors as on a normal busy day. This is already the most visitors we’ve ever had on a single day since we started in 2007!

Why are we getting so many visitors today? Well, there is an intense debate going on in Germany at the moment about Street View. A lot of protests. Google have announced that Street View will release images from Germany in November. One weird story about a girl lying on the pavement has also been front page news all over the world this weekend.

During the last two days Streetviewfun.com has for instance been mentioned in a couple of german newspapers, one of the largest newspapers in Sweden (Dagens Nyheter) and PC World. Earlier this weekend we upgraded the server to cope with extra traffic. Some features have been temporarily removed such as rating images, but it will be back shortly.

We’ve now added more than 5,000 streetview images to StreetViewFun.com since the launch in 2007. Thanks to all who have contributed with streetview sightings over the years! You can see a list of the top contributors in the menu to the right.

Also a special thanks to those who send images over email and don’t have an account here. They don’t get added to the top contributors list automaticly. But we can do it manually. Simply mention your username when you send us the streetview sighting over email.

So, if you prefer to send us streetview links over email and wish to get added to this contributor list, please create a username. We made the move to reduce the problems we’ve had when we get extreme traffic. When streetview images are added by Google to new regions traffic increases rapidly over the next few days. This new cloud hosting solution will be able to handle much more traffic and scale down when there is less traffic. The first test came within just an hour of the move when a popular german site mentioned streetviewfun.com. It handled the extra traffic very well.

In the past we’ve had to disable many features such as ratings while the traffic was heavy to this site. We hope to avoid downtime and turning off features with this server move.

There are now more than 4000 streetviews on StreetViewFun.com. The site launched on June 2nd, 2007, shortly after Google had released it’s StreetView service. Thanks to all who have contributed and sent sightings! You can see a list of Top Contributors in the menu to the right.
