New Google Earth Imagery – January 18

by Google Earth Blog on Jan.18, 2013, under 3D Models, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, California, Denmark, England, Germany, Google Earth News, Google Earth Tips, Google Sky, Google maps, Hawaii, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Natural Landmarks, Netherlands, Sightseeing, Street Views, USA

Thanks to a tip from GEB reader 'Anthony', we've learned that Google has just pushed out a fresh imagery update!

As is almost always the case, you can use Google Maps to determine for sure whether or not a specific area is fresh. This new imagery isn't in Google Maps yet, so you can compare Earth vs. Maps to see what's new; the fresh imagery is already in Google Earth, but the old imagery is still in Google Maps. If you compare the two side-by-side and they're not identical, that means that you've found a freshly updated area in Google Earth!

Some of the updated areas include:

  • Argentina: Buenos Aires, Punta Alta
  • France: Chambery
  • India: Agra, Aurangabad, New Delhi
  • New Zealand: Christchurch (thanks 'Anthony')
  • United Arab Emirates: Dubai (thanks 'Munden')
  • United States: Georgia (Atlanta), Louisiana (New Orleans)

If you find any other updated areas, please leave a comment and let us know!

Google release more Street View images from Israel

by StreetViewFun.com on Jan.18, 2013, under 3D Models, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, California, Denmark, England, Germany, Google Earth News, Google Earth Tips, Google Sky, Google maps, Hawaii, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Natural Landmarks, Netherlands, Sightseeing, Street Views, USA

Google Maps Street View just added a couple of more areas from Israel. Last year the first images from Israel was released. Now we can see the following new areas according to Google:

You can now virtually tour the picturesque city of Safed in the North, the coral reef in Eilat in the South, visit the lowest point on earth at the Dead Sea, and wander around the narrow passageways of the old city of Acre.

Visit Tiberias, one of Judaism’s four holy cities; the Sea of Galilee where, according to the Gospels, Jesus walked on water; and stop off at Capernaum, the ancient fishing village believed to be the home of St. Peter, or the ancient battle site of Tel Meggido, better known as Armageddon.

Let’s take a look at some of those areas right now.
